Day 253

Friday Post...
Hope everyone had a great, warm 4th of July...still some fireworks here on Saturday...
The wood flooring guys came racing through this morning and were finished by noon...they will come back to sand, stain and finish the floors as one of the last things to do...they have a real system with one guy roughly laying out the pieces and the other guy coming along to nail the pieces in place...
As you can see the paint is progressing...yes, that's a plum in the master bedroom...more paint needed in the master bath...bead board will go up in the kitchen...
Monday there will be big group here to work on a bunch of things including getting the trench for the water line from the pump house to the "real" house...Millwork and interior doors next week...

Day 245

Just when you think they've finished digging...

You go away for a day and look what happens. Yesterday, Barb and I went to Northern VA to pick up some tile then to IKEA for shelves in the kitchen. A whirlwind round trip of 240 miles in about seven hours.
The septic system was started and now they are waiting for an inspector to complete the project.
This morning the tile crew came in to begin laying in the Utility Room, 1/2 bath, master bath and 2nd floor bath.
We've done some shopping for lights and have ceiling fans arriving tomorrow.
The pace quickens as the events and projects take a bit less time than before. Race now to coordinate the various pieces of the puzzle heading toward completion.
Photos of the tile work in a couple of days...
Hold the line...

Day 241

Bring on the heavy equipment...

It's landscaping time. Shape the site for drainage away from the house and around toward the water. Taking dirt from this side of the cottage and depositing it in the "front" yard.
Making way for the septic system which will begin on Monday.
Painting still going on and the tile guy is coming on Tuesday to begin laying the tile. Then the hardwood floors and carpeting...
Next hiccup will be the holiday and how that will impact the plan...
Stay tuned!!!
Have a great weekend...

Day 238

Drywall taping and speckling is like watching paint dry...duh!

We have paint on the walls, YES!!!
Well, it's really primer but that counts as paint...
Process is dragging a bit right now with personnel issues. Soon to be resolved...
When paint is applied electrical can come in an begin installing fixtures.
Floors to be started next week.
Making plans to get the outside started grading and landscaping in prep for the septic, power, and gas line...
Stay tuned...

Day 225

Busy site today...
Right is "Catfish" doing the taping and speckling with crew. They walk around on the "stilts" as if they were part of their legs. "Catfish" even does the stairs on them but then he's been doing this for about 40 years. I always thought they would be a good addition for covering the White House instead of carrying around a ladder. Expected competition of taping and speckling is Monday.
Left is the Northern Neck Building Supply truck blowing in the insulation in the attic. Only thing left for them is to do is install insulation in the crawl space which will be one of the very last items.
We're expecting painting to begin next week, then flooring...

On the sailing front, the Southern Bay Race Week was abbreviated to one day from three with the incursion of an EF0 tornado that Friday night ripped through headquarters, the Hampton Yacht Club,  leaving destruction but remarkably no injuries reported. My question for the well informed is, with the glass in the front of the building blown in from the winds and much more damage, how come that green porta john, at left, is still standing?

Reports coming...Stand by...

Day 219

The dust has settled...
Drywall is hung, taping and spackling next...
Hopefully done by the weekend...

Your friendly blogger is taking a couple of days off from the "Job Site."

I'm driving to Hampton, VA today for the Southern Bay Race Week...
I'll be serving on the Race Committee to help assure the safe and orderly "herding of the cats" who will be sailing Friday, Sat., and Sunday....wish me luck...
There are about 100 boats in a bunch of different fleets racing over the three days...weather is predicted to be excellent, but then any day on the water is better than a day "in the office."

Back at the job site on Monday...
